Arizona opened its door to my imagination and became my inspiration. Incredible blue skies and vast vistas of glorious space provided breathtaking extremes. Desert to massive ravines and pillar rock formations moving to pine forests and snow capped mountains dwarfed anything viewed by me whilst traveling around the world. Another love of mine, the elephant, 'Hefty Trunk' might seem out of place in this anthology; but he is surely the reason for my relocating to Cave Creek in close proximity to Elephant Butte and miles of desert trails. During my daily horse back rides, at every turn another angle of beauty is drawn to me. This book is a compilation of my first impressions of the unique characteristics of the Sonoran desert terrain and is a collection of thirty poems with illustrations including this excerpt... The clouds and the sun when they co-ordinate Paint masterpiece watercolors it seems Upon the vast face of pure infinity. Created with constantly changing specters of light, Over, through, and across the sky. With minor disagreements coaxed by wind as a paint brush. Who else could send the cottonwool masses fleeting or blundering - Hopefully eventually quenching the thirst of the land. Clouds wrongly coerced may create torrents of death, Whereas sweet whispers will encourage tears of joy and thus life. The clouds should be hurried, flustering not blustering, With lifewarming intermissions from the sun! Come join Linda Hutson, a new resident of Cave Creek direct from London, as she journeys across Arizona and celebrates the beauty of the Grand Canyon State! |
